Year 12 Students Attend KMAT Religious Studies & Philosophy Enrichment Event

Posted on: 17/12/2025

On Tuesday 18th November, Year 12 Sixth Form students had the opportunity to take part in a KMAT Religious Studies and Philosophy enrichment event. The session featured a university-style lecture and an engaging Q&A, led by guest speaker Sam McKee.

Throughout the event, students explored a wide range of thought-provoking topics, including aspects of biology, the relationship between religion and science, and key developments in the history and philosophy of science. The lecture encouraged students to think critically about how scientific understanding and religious thought can intersect, challenge, and enrich one another.

Sam McKee brought an exceptional breadth of academic expertise to the session. He completed a BSc in Genetics at the University of Cambridge, followed by a BA (Hons) in Theology and an MRes from the University of Chester. He later achieved a second master’s degree in Molecular Biology from Birkbeck College. Sam has also earned two PhDs—one in the History and Philosophy of Science and another in Biomedical Science.

He currently serves as an Associate Tutor in the History and Philosophy of Science at Manchester Metropolitan University, and his multidisciplinary background offered students a unique insight into both scientific inquiry and philosophical reflection.

The event was a valuable opportunity for students to experience higher-level academic discussion and consider the diverse pathways that lie at the intersection of science, religion, and philosophy.
