Textiles

Taught at Kenilworth School & Sixth Form

Exam Board: Eduqas

Assessment Method:

Component1 Personal Investigation (60%)

You will complete an in-depth, personal textiles project based on a theme that inspires you. This includes a practical portfolio showing your creative journey — from initial research and experimentation with fabrics, surface design, stitch, and mixed media — through to a final textile outcome that showcases your ideas and technical skill. Alongside your practical work, you will  write a short study (at least 1,000 words) linking your work to artists, designers and textile practitioners who influence you. Both parts are assessed together.

Component 2 Externally Set Assignment (40%)

In the spring of Year 13, Eduqas releases a choice of themes for you to respond to in your own way. You will explore your chosen theme through preparatory work, experimenting with textile techniques and materials. This leads to a 15-hour practical exam, where you will create a final textile piece that brings your ideas to life.

Your work is assessed on four key Assessment Objectives:

  1. Develop ideas through research and contextual understanding.

  1. Experiment with a range of textile media, materials, and processes.

  1. Record your observations, ideas, and insights.

  1. Present a personal, meaningful, and well-crafted textile outcome.

All work is assessed by your teacher and externally moderated by Eduqas.
