Why Should I Follow This Course?

You should thoroughly enjoy Mathematics You should have a minimum of a Grade 8 in your Mathematics GCSE and a score of in excess of 70% in our diagnostic assessment (taken after the GCSE examinations) You should have very strong algebra skills. You should have studied quadratics, completing the square, higher trigonometry, vectors and factorising expressions such as 3x2+7x+2. This course is highly regarded by universities and some will consider reduced grade offers for Further Mathematics, reflecting the difficulty of the option. Some Universities will require Further Mathematics to study Mathematics and it is especially useful for students wishing to study Mathematics, Mathematics related courses, Engineering or Sciences.

What Will I Learn?

Students will study all of the topics in A level mathematics and the following: Proof; Complex numbers; Matrices; Further algebra and functions; Further calculus; Further vectors; Polar coordinates; Hyperbolic functions; Differential equations; Trigonometry; Numerical methods.

Where will this qualification take me?

Further Mathematics provides a big advantage to students intending to study Mathematics at university. It is also highly regarded by other subjects, as an indication of a very able student. You should be aware that subjects such as Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Computing and all types of Engineering prefer you to have Further Mathematics and some of the more highly rated universities even require it.

GCSE Maths Grade 8 and must also take A level Mathematics alongside Further Maths
