100% Examination. Why Should I Follow This Course? Biology is a wide-ranging subject looking at everything from the nervous system through to whole ecosystems, from the ultrastructure of cells and the control of individual genes to the control of the whole body’s response to its changing environment. By following the course you will develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of Biology and how they relate to each other and the world around us. You will be introduced to new techniques, skills and ways of investigating Biology principals and processes. What Teaching and Learning Methods Will Be Used? As well as the use of traditional teaching methods such as group work, practical and theory work and exam preparation you will have class and home written tasks bolstered by success criteria throughout. Developing your skills as an independent learner is a must. Regular formal and informal testing will be used to inform your learning.

What Will I Learn?

The course offers the opportunity to develop students’ interest and enthusiasm for Biology, including how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society. You need to have a passion for all things practical, creative and a desire to develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works. By the end of the course you should also have achieved the practical skills necessary to achieve a Practical Endorsement in Biology.

Where Will This Qualification Take Me?

The AS and Advanced GCE in Biology can lead to further study in Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Psychology, Bioengineering, and a wide range of other courses in Higher Education at degree or HND level. Biology A Level complements a variety of subjects and is useful in a range of careers. The transferable skills inherent in the course are increased collaborative working, team building, problem solving critical thinking and drawing conclusions, time management skills and enhanced practical and presentation skills.

GCSE Combined Science Grade 6-6 or GCSE Biology 6 + one other science Grade 6. GCSE English Language and Maths Grade 6.
