Dear Parents

Thank you for taking the time to look through our new school prospectus.  The last year has seen an unprecedented momentum in moving our school forward.  Our application to become an academy was successful and we are now The Westwood Academy, effective from 1st August 2011, working alongside our existing partners, The University of Warwick and our neighbouring ICT business – Trinity Expert Systems – both organisations transferring from our Trust to our Academy Board. 

We are delighted that the 2010 Ofsted inspection team praised highly the work of staff and Governors which has further contributed to the success of the school and our achievement of ‘Good with Outstanding features’ as the overall inspection grade. The report highlighted that The Westwood School is a friendly and safe place in which pupils enjoy their learning. We are now building further on our educational successes and pupil achievement through our city wide reputation for effective teaching and learning.

This prospectus will only give you part of the picture. We are very proud of what we have achieved and would warmly encourage you to visit during our,”working day” with your child to see the school at work.  Your visit and the contents of this prospectus will reveal an school with superb modern facilities located in magnificent surroundings adjacent to the renowned University of Warwick and the flourishing Westwood Business and Science Parks – the adjacent availability of the Xcel Leisure Centre on former school land has allowed increased access to excellent local sports and leisure facilities such as the swimming pool for both pupils and our local community.

You will observe excellent teaching and learning taught in small classes and you will see our pupils working in an orderly, calm and effective environment.  Parents visiting us always comment on the excellent behaviour around the school, the ‘happy’ atmosphere and the visibly good relationships between teachers and pupils.  We are proud of what we have achieved but believe we can be even better with continuing support from parents and by utilising the advantages our academy status brings.

Like you, we want your child to achieve their best so we believe firmly in providing a stimulating, encouraging and happy atmosphere with parents, pupils and local community.  As an integral part of that partnership your child will have the opportunity to join study club and to take advantage of the numerous extra-curricular activities offered during daytime breaks, at the end of the day and over the school holidays.
