“Outstanding, outstanding, outstanding”
OFSTED today reported that ICT provision in many schools is poor. The Westwood Academy is ‘bucking the trend’ having received an outstanding grade in their recent HMI Inspection for ICT provision.
Roger Whittall, Head teacher, says:
“The Westwood Academy has been graded outstanding in all areas of ICT provision. I speak on behalf of all of our students, staff, governors and business partners when I say that we are delighted that we have been recognised for the teaching, courses and facilities that place us at the cutting edge of ICT provision; this accolade confirms that our young people are well prepared for the use of contemporary ICT in the world of work. In the context of today’s report that suggests that many schools are inadequate with respect to ICT provision we are very proud of our school.”

CROSS OF NAILS AWARD
On Thursday 1 December 2011, The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, Lord Bishop of Coventry visited the Westwood Academy. The Westwood Academy is the only non-church state school in the world with a Cross of Nails awarded by Coventry Cathedral for its work on peace and reconciliation, its spirituality and effort on community cohesion. Bishop Christopher met with Headteacher Roger Whittall, toured the school and met a group of 6th formers to discuss topical issues. The emphasis of the visit was spirituality in a secular secondary school.
